Allahabad HC orders suspension of two District Magistrates over illegal mining case in Rampur
The Allahabad High Court bench of Chief Justice Dilip Babasaheb Bhosale and Justice Manoj Kumar Gupta on Thursday passed orders of suspension against Kanpur rural District Magistrate Rakesh Kumar Singh and Gorakhpur District Magistrate Rajiv Rautela over an illegal mining case related to Kosi River in Rampur district.
The petition was filed by one Maqsood, who hails from Dadiyal in the Rampur district. He had alleged that the license of sand storage was given to one Nanhe despite the ban and also that the court order was ignored and an attempt was made to overlook the matter without any proper investigation.
The petitioner, thus, accused the two district magistrates, Rautela and Singh, of promoting illegal mining during their tenure as district magistrates in Rampur.
The court had earlier also summoned DM Rampur Shiv Sahai Awasthi questioning him as to how the licence was issued to the contractor. The DM later suspended the license in November 2017.
The Allahabad High Court while passing the suspension orders of the Two District Magistrates has further directed the UP Chief Secretary to take disciplinary action against these DMs and submit a report on January 16, 2018. The High Court has also given strict instructions to investigate the role of other administrative and police officials in the case and to initiate departmental action.
