Disclose quantity of Nicotine & Carbon Monoxide on Cigarette Packets, MP HC issues notice to Centre
A Division Bench of Justices PK Srivastava and V Singh of Indore Bench of Madhya Pradesh High Court issued notice to the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry and 10 others while hearing a petition with respect to the non-disclosure of the quantity of nicotine and carbon monoxide on cigarette packets according to prescribed norms.
The Court has sought replies from the concerned parties within four weeks time. The Petition notes that the Centre has made display of harmful substances found in cigarettes on packets mandatory.
The Petition was filed by petitioner Harsh Jhunjhunwala who was represented by Advocate Anshuman Srivastava.
Besides the Union Secretary (Health and Family Welfare), the court issued notices to the Union Secretary (Industry and Commerce), the MP Government’s Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary (Health and Family Welfare), Principal Secretary (Industry and Commerce). The Collector of Indore besides four other companies have also been issued notices for violation of norms.
