CBI Court extends Karti Chidamabaram’s custody for three days in INX media case
A special CBI Judge on Tuesday extended the CBI custody of Karti Chidambaram in the INX media case by three days. ASG Tushar Mehta appeared for the CBI while Senior Advocate A.M.Singhvi appeared for Karti Chidambaram.
Mehta sought an extension of the custody of Chidambaram, as certain new facts had come to light during the interrogation which needed to be further interrogated. He further said that Chidambaram was being uncooperative. When asked for his mobile phone’s password, he refused to share it and said “go to hell“. He added that he was refusing to answer even basic questions. Even if he is asked his name, he responds by saying that he is a victim of political vendetta, Mehta said.
Singhvi, on the other hand, submitted that there were no grounds for extension of custody. He stated that Chidambaram had the right to stay silent. He further stated that it was not true to suggest that Chidambaram was not co-operating with the investigation. He was answering questions from 9 am to 6 pm every day. He further stated that the CBI had not given a single ground for extension of custody.
Mehta said that Chidambaram was tampering with evidence and that there was a dire need for further investigation, which required Chidambaram’s presence.
After hearing the Advocates, the Special CBI Judge Rana reserved his order. Later, the court issued an order allowing Karti Chidambaram to be kept in CBI custody for three more days.
